Closed Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can be operated with different techniques with advanced technology. Especially after open and closed rhinoplasty surgeries, recovery time has significantly decreased for the patients. Closed rhinoplasty is the intervention to the nose from the small cuts inside the nose. No scarring, natural nose look, shorter surgery duration and shorter recovery duration leads this method to be preferred by many patients. The important thing in closed rhinoplasty is that this surgery is extremely hard. Doctors experience more challenge when they intervene in the nose with this method. Therefore, doctors who will operate the patients must be experts and experienced doctors.

What are the advantages of closed rhinoplasty?

The cuts are made inside the nose in closed rhinoplasty. Therefore, the soft tissue and skin in the nose are not damaged.

Since the method is closed, the scar will not be visible from outside.

The number of nerves cut in this surgery is low. Therefore, patients will experience less numbness after surgery.

This surgery enables better support to the nose tip.

Swelling after this surgery is less than the open surgery and swelling lasts shorter.

Smaller and finer cuts are made inside the nose for this surgery. These cuts are made with surgical tools. Therefore, scarring possibility is low.

Recovery after this surgery is shorter, less painful and more comfortable.

This surgery lasts shorter than open rhinoplasty.

When is open rhinoplasty preferred?

With closed rhinoplasty, it is possible to treat many problems with nose aesthetic. These problems can be listed as droopy nose tip, nasal deviated septum, nasal hump, nose wing problems and nasal bridge problems. Additionally, many other problems can be treated. In this surgery, problems are fixed with filing rather than breaking the bone. When needed, cartilage tissue might be transferred.

What is the process before closed rhinoplasty?

Before closed rhinoplasty, patients are examined in detail. Functional and physical problems in the nose are determined and the surgery method is selected. Nose structure after the surgery is shown with 3-dimensional simulations. 3-dimensional simulations are used for selecting how the nose will be corrected and to select the best shape. Anaesthesia sensitivity is tested before the surgery. After routine surgery tests are completed, surgery date is selected.

How is closed rhinoplasty operated?

In general, closed rhinoplasty is operated under general anaesthesia. If the patient does not have an important issue on the nose and if there will be less intervention in the surgery, local anaesthesia might be preferred. The operation approximately lasts between 1-3 hours. During the surgery, surgical tools are used for making a cut in the nose. Necessary intervention is made with these cuts and the surgery is completed with aesthetic sutures.

What is the process after closed rhinoplasty?

After this surgery, hospitalisation duration will depend on the anaesthesia. If patients are operated under local anaesthesia, they are discharged on the same day. If patients are operated under general anaesthesia, they are hospitalised for one day for observation purpose.

Patients might need to use silicon splinters and protective bands to reduce bleeding. Since these splinters are breathable, patients will not experience any problem regarding breathing. With this method, splinter and tampon usage are decreased and patients can enjoy a comfortable process after the surgery. Splinters inside the nose are removed after 2-3 days.

Since the sutures will be inside the nose, these sutures will dissolve on their own and there is no need for suture removal.

It is possible to experience slight swelling and oedema for the first 48 hours after the surgery. This will go away on its own.

Patients can go back to their daily lives after 1 week or 10 days.

It is recommended to keep their head high during the first week and use at least two pillows while sleeping.

The recovery will start in 6 weeks.

Patients can have a bath 3 days after the surgery.

Patients must avoid high-intensity sports for two months and keep themselves away from sunlight.

They must not use sunglasses for approximately 2 months and prefer that instead.

They must use sunscreen for at least one month to protect their nose from the direct effects of sunlight.
